Diagnosis
The doctor may ask for blood tests which will show a high blood level. Other blood tests may detect the antibodies that are common in type 1 diabetes.

Treatment
This includes taking insulin, monitoring blood sugar, regularly exercising and eating healthy foods. One may need to see may specialists to help with the diet, exercise and nutrition.
Insulin is delivered either via a fine needle and syringe, an insulin pen with a fine needle. Or an insulin pump, a small device worn on the outside of your body that you program to deliver specific amounts of insulin throughout the day and when you eat. A tube connects a reservoir of insulin to a catheter that’s inserted under the skin of your abdomen.
One has to learn to monitor their blood sugar level at least four times a day- before every meal, bedtime and the middle of the night rarely. I can understand this can get tedious, but it is the only way to monitor blood sugar levels. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices measure your blood sugar every few minutes using a temporary sensor inserted under the skin.

Physical activity
Regular aerobic exercise is good for us all but the meal plan and insulin doses need to adjust for this. Make physical activity a part of your daily routine for around an hour. You can have your family and friends with you, which makes the activities more fun.

Healthy eating
The diet should include foods that are high in nutrition and low in fat and calories such as lean protein, whole grains, vegetables and fruits. A diet specialist will help you create a meal plan that fits your food preferences and health goals and how to count for carbohydrates in foods which informs how much insulin to dose.
