Do I wear contact lenses or glasses? If your vision is not 20/20 but your eyes are otherwise healthy, you can choose either to help you see. There are pros and cons to both. The choice depends on your lifestyle and personal preference.
Contact lenses
These are a thin disc of plastic or glass that is placed directly on the eye to correct vision. They can be soft or rigid. Soft lenses can be worn daily then cleaned at night, daily disposals for single use or extended-wear taken out once a week for cleaning. Hard lenses last longer but are less comfortable.
Contacts give you a more natural vision than glasses. They move with the eye and nothing blocks what you see. They do not fog up or get wet when it is cold and rainy. When playing sports, they do not get in the way.
However, contacts need a lot more care than glasses. You can get serious eye infections if hands and the lenses are not properly washed. The contacts can move about which can make vision blurry. Contacts are also more expensive. Contacts also require more follow-up care with your eye doctor than lenses.
Glasses
There are two types of eye glasses. Single vision glasses correct distance, multifocal ones help with distance and near-vision issues, like reading.
Glasses were made of glass but now are mostly plastic. The latter are lighter but they’re more likely to scratch than glass.
Glasses ae easy, you put them on and go. They do not need special cleaning and do not require much care. You can choose different frames to fit your style. If your vision stays the same, you do not have to change glasses often. You do not have to touch your eyes. You can take off and put on your glasses any time you want.
Glasses, however, can put pressure on the nose and ears which can be uncomfortable. Some people do not like how glasses make them look. You may have trouble adjusting to progressive lenses. Glasses can distort vision and it is hard to see in the far periphery of your vision depending on the frame you choose. The lenses fog up and get wet in the rain. They are also not suitable for sport activities.
So be keen and be seen in what suits your needs!
