The football event brought together young sickle cell warriors, families and organisations working to raise awareness and support for people living with sickle cell disease. It was more than just a match. It was a day filled with energy, learning and togetherness.

From the start, the excitement was visible. Teenagers came ready to play, cheer and connect with each other. The pitch turned into a space where warriors could just enjoy and be themselves

The Thriving Teens Foundation (TTF) team spent time engaging with the participants, especially young sickle cell warriors, listening to their experiences and learning what living with sickle cell looks like through their lens. We also handed out questionnaires to better understand their needs, interests and areas where more support is required.

It was refreshing to see how open the sickle cell warriors were. Many shared their dreams, how they manage their health and what keeps them motivated even when living with a chronic condition. These moments reminded us that while sickle cell can be tough, the warriors facing it are tougher.

The event also created space for conversations with caregivers and other partners. Together, we discussed how awareness and partnerships can improve care for adolescents living with sickle cell Disease.

The event was a success. Each smile, each shared story and each new friendship became part of the bigger goal: to keep creating safe spaces for young warriors to thrive.

Special Thanks to the Children Sickle Cell Foundation (CSCF) for organising the event.
